Q. What is the recommended filling amount when using mica as a filler? A. This is actually a surprisingly common question, but there isn't a straightforward answer... Finding the right balance that maximizes the effectiveness of the filler without compromising the functionality of the resin is quite challenging. As the aspect ratio and average particle size change for different sizes, the physical properties of mica also vary slightly. For applications where you don't want any color to show, M grade (white mica) is recommended, while S grade (gold mica) is preferred if physical properties are the priority. Depending on the type of resin and its application, the grade, size, and filling amount will all change, so I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the optimal filling amount in a meeting. Lastly, if we consider only the physical properties of mica without taking into account the type of resin or the thickness of the film, the larger the average particle size of mica, the better its physical properties tend to be, with a filling rate of 20% to 30% or more showing significant improvements in those properties.
